What an inspiring post to start my morning, Carla. Dedication is crucial to writing consistently. No matter what plot twists that life throws our way, we can be dedicated to our craft.

You climbed a tree and wrote books. At that same age, I tried to find whatever nook I could find to be undisturbed so I could read books. Thus the major difference between readers and writers. It never occurred to me to actually write stories. ;-)

I do computery stuff. Geeky stuff. I am often asked how I can possibly do this - it's so complicated! I say "It's not rocket science, it's persistence." I keep looking for the answer until I find it and make things work.

Thus it is with anything we want to do. We persist in the face of things not always working, or having to completely redo something we thought would work - but doesn't, or needing to fix something that annoys us, or even those delightful times when things do go right. The end result, when it all comes together, the ever wonderful moment of happiness. The "Got It". No matter the profession, I think this holds true for just about everyone.

Hi Carla--

It was terrific hearing you speak today in Portsmouth--I'm sitting here right now creating my goalposts and thinking about the way I work and how those first 75 pages can fit into the way I work. Thank you for that!

Best,
Susan Colebank (the one who talked to you about making the writing process more effective)

Welcome back. I just picked up Saints Gate, can't wait till the kid is asleep and the kitchen is clean - then, YIPPY!, a new Carla Neggers novel. I've introduced my 80yr old father, who we moved to our home town earlier this year, and my sister to your novels, they love them, of course. I'm looking forward to the recipes you're posting. And just a reminder, we have a nice little bookstore in Menlo Park, Ca called Keplers. We would so love to have you come to our area. Have you ever thought about bringing some of your characters out west?

I have it! Plan to get to it next week as reading another book. Also planning to return to Vermont in October. We were there some 15 years ago and loved it. Need to see what new bears are at Vermont Teddy Bear Factory. Will you be doing book signing near there the first part of October? Would like to meet you. Karen
